Hot Wheels shrinks iconic Aussie skatepark to celebrate the launch of its first ever skate toy line Down Under

Tony Hawk helps launch the brand into the fingerboard market Iconic Bondi Skatepark is turned into a one-off miniature sculpture

Hot Wheels™ has celebrated the launch of its first ever fingerboard line, Hot Wheels Skate™, into the Australian market. Made possible thanks to the special partnership between the iconic toy brand, and legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk.

After decades of owning the Toy Car, Track Sets and Monster Trucks space, Hot Wheels Skate™ is the brand’s first foray into skate toys. And to celebrate its launch in Australia, has created a one-off scaled down version of Australia’s most recognisable skatepark - Bondi Skatepark. Turning it into a miniature sculpture which will begin touring retailers in months to come.

Libby McEniry, Senior Marketing Manager, Hot Wheels Australia says: “We’re stoked that our brand-new toy line, Hot Wheels Skate, is now available in Australia.

“The cool part of Hot Wheels Skate fingerboards is they come with a pair of shoes for your fingers. This will help all kids (and adults) of any skill level, fingerboard and perform next level tricks!

“We all know Australia has a rich skate culture. We look forward to making Hot Wheels synonymous with skate in decades to come and know the equally iconic Tony Hawk will have a hand in helping us get there.”

Arguably the world's most influential skateboarder, Tony Hawk, is no stranger to skating Australia’s iconic skateparks.

Tony Hawk says: “I'm excited to finally introduce this epic new line of fingerboards to Australia. These products were created for Fingerboarders of all experience levels. And it’s flattering to know their first sessions will be on a scaled down build of Bondi Skatepark: a park I’ve enjoyed skating many times over the last three decades.”

The one-of-a kind miniature Bondi Skatepark sculpture made its way to Bondi to mark the official launch. Professional Australian skateboarder Poppy Starr Olsen, Olympian Jarryd Hughes, and up and coming skater Ruby Trew were the first to try it out. *

Hawk continues: “While this sculpture isn’t available in store, I look forward to checking it out next time I’m in the country.”

The first Hot Wheels Skate™ products to drop into Australian stores include:

While other product lines include true-to-life recreations of real skateboards and skatepark playsets that mirror the real world, Hot Wheels™ aimed to create products that are not bound by realism and that give a fantastical spin on the sport.

The Hot Wheels Skate™ line features a wide range of fingerboards with unique designs created by the Hot Wheels™ design team in collaboration with Tony Hawk as well as replications of some of Tony’s most famous board designs.

The range is available at Big W, Target, Myer, and Australia’s leading independent toy stores.

*Miniature Bondi Skatepark

The miniature Bondi Skatepark sculpture is scaled to 1:36. While it is not available to buy, it will be touring Australian retailers in months to come. The Hot Wheels Skate™ line comes with an array of skate sets for Fingerboarders of all experience levels to hone their skills.
