Installing the Pad-Pak

The Pad-Pak is an all-in-one cartridge that contains both the battery and electrode pads, ensuring that you only need to replace one unit rather than separate components. 

There are two types of Pad-Paks:

• Standard Pad-Pak (Grey), which is suitable for anyone over eight years old or weighing more than 25kg.
• Pediatric-Pak (Pink), designed for children aged 1 to 8 years old and weighing under 25kg.

• Check the expiration date printed on the rear of the Pad-Pak. If expired, do not use it and replace it immediately.
• Slide the Pad-Pak into the defibrillator until you hear a double click. This click indicates that it is securely in place.

• Turn on the device briefly to ensure the voice prompts are audible and in the correct language.

How to Use the HeartSine 360P in an Emergency: A Step-By-Step Guide

When a person collapses and is unresponsive, follow these steps to use the HeartSine defibrillator effectively.

Step 1: Assess the Patient

Approach the person and check for a response by speaking loudly and tapping their cheek or shoulders. Call out their name if you know it. If the person does not respond, immediately call Triple Zero (000) for emergency assistance. If other people are around, instruct someone to call for help while you prepare the defibrillator.

Step 2: Prepare the Defibrillator

Retrieve the HeartSine 360P defibrillator and press the green ON button. The device will begin giving clear voice instructions, guiding you step by step. The 360P is fully automatic, meaning no additional buttons need to be pressed to deliver a shock.

Step 3: Expose the Patient’s Chest and Apply the Pads

• Remove any clothing from the patient's chest to expose their bare skin.
• Pull the green tab to release the electrode pads from the defibrillator.
• Peel the pads from the liner and place them on the patient’s chest exactly as shown in the diagrams on the pads. One pad should be placed on the upper right side of the chest, just below the collarbone. The other should be positioned on the lower left side, a few inches below the armpit.

For children under 8 years old, remove the standard pads and insert the Pediatric Pak before placing the pads as instructed.

Step 4: Let the 360P Analyse the Heart Rhythm

Once the pads are in place, the HeartSine defibrillator will automatically analyse the patient’s heart rhythm. At this point, do not touch the patient. If a shock is needed, the device will automatically deliver it without requiring you to press any buttons.

The device will give a countdown before the shock is delivered. As it’s counting down, you have to pull back from the person. Once the shock has been delivered, the device will prompt you to begin CPR.

Step 5: Perform CPR with Audio Guidance

The HeartSine 360P provides audio guidance to assist you in performing CPR. It will:

• Instruct you to begin chest compressions.
• Play a metronome sound to guide you in maintaining the correct compression rhythm.
• Show you how to place your hand to do compressions properly.  

With the instructions it gives you, perform chest compressions at a rate of 100-120 per minute. Continue CPR until the defibrillator reassesses the heart rhythm.

After two minutes, the 360P will pause to reanalyse the heart rhythm. If another shock is required, it will automatically deliver it. If no shock is needed, you would have to continue CPR until emergency services arrive or the person regains consciousness.

How to Store and Maintain Your Defibrillator After Use

After using your Heartsine 360P defibrillator, it’s important to clean it, check it and ensure it’s fully operational for the next emergency.

The Pad Pak is designed for single use only, so you have to replace it. Without a fresh Pad-Pak, the device won’t be ready for another emergency. Once replaced, check that the green status light is flashing, indicating the unit is operational.

After that, you would have to clean the defibrillator by wiping it down with a damp cloth and a mild disinfectant. Avoid submerging it in water or using harsh cleaning chemicals, as this could damage the device. Also, make sure the electrode pad compartment remains dry and free from residue.

It’s also a good idea to power on the device briefly to confirm that it still provides clear voice instructions and is functioning as expected. If anything seems off, check the user manual or perhaps contact the manufacturer.

If the defibrillator was used in a workplace or public setting, record the details of the incident, including the date of use and any maintenance performed.

As for storage, you should keep the defibrillator in an accessible location, inside its carry case, and away from extreme heat, moisture or dust. 

It’s also important to schedule monthly checks to inspect the unit. During these inspections, you can confirm if the battery indicator is green and if there is any visible damage that would stop it from working the next time there is an emergency.
